27-year-old Oregon Tourist Brandon Bade was fighting with security outside of Rippy’s on Broadway in downtown Nashville on Christmas Eve as an onlooker flagged down police for assistance. Police Officer Christopher Cantrell says he used joint manipulation to subdue Bade, and once he was placed into handcuffs, appeared to be unconscious. The officer states he was going to let him go without charges, and called an ambulance to transport the unconscious man to the hospital, and uncuffed him so he could be loaded into the ambulance.
Moments later, Bade became conscious again and began to fight with the medics in the back of the ambulance, and attempted to bite one of them. Bade was re-cuffed and told he was under arrest. He then fought with the officer, who was now accompanying him on the ride to Metro General Hospital, and even landed a punch to the officer’s face, despite being cuffed. Bade was charged with assault, disorderly conduct, and public intoxication. He is free on pre-trial release.

ARREST WARRANT / AFFIDAVIT: |
I was working walking patrol on Broadway near 5th ave. N when a citizen flagged me down to tell me two people were fighting on the corner of 5th Ave S and Broadway. I observed the defendant fighting with security outside of the bar Rippy’s.
I ran over and subdued the defendant using joint manipulation and placed him in handcuffs. At this time the defendant appeared to be unconscious, so I called for an ambulance. No one outside Rippys wanted to prosecute so I was going to let the defendant be transported to the hospital without being charged for any offenses. I removed the handcuffs, and the defendant was loaded into the back of NFD ambulance medic 5. The defendant then became hostile and began fighting with the medics in the back of the ambulance and attempting to bite them. At this time, I placed the defendant back into handcuffs and informed him he was under arrest. The defendant continued to fight with me the entire ride to General Hospital and struck me in the face with his hands which caused me pain in my face. The defendant was transported to General Hospital to be medically cleared. For the entire interaction, the defendant has had very dilated pupils and has been verbally unresponsive. |
