Metro Nashville Police say Miami Dolphins fans were hitting and kicking a Nissan Altima and taunting the four Titans fans inside the vehicle just before 3 p.m. Sunday outside Nissan Stadium. That’s when 27-year-old Austin Morris emerged from the passenger seat of the vehicle and brandished a black handgun at the individuals in the Dolphins jerseys. Morris remained in the middle of the street and appeared heavily intoxicated. Officers additionally located an open bottle of liquor where he had been sitting, and he admitted to having several drinks during the game. Morris was charged with possession of a weapon under the influence and transported to booking.

COMPLAINT:
2022-0002046
ARREST WARRANT / AFFIDAVIT:
On 01-02-2021, at approximately 1457 hours, Officer Robert Morris was working a traffic post at the location of Shelby Avenue and South 5th Street when he observed a silver Nissan Altima in the intersection, and multiple individuals wearing Miami Dolphins fan gear near it. The vehicle was occupied four times, and the group of people wearing the Miami gear appeared to be taunting the people inside of the vehicle and striking the vehicle with their empty hands and feet.

Officer Morris then observed as the defendant emerged from the front passenger seat of the silver Nissan Altima while brandishing a black handgun, which caused the group of people wearing the Miami Dolphins gear to run off Southbound on South 5th Street.

Officer Morris then observed as the defendant was then standing in the middle of the Shelby Avenue and South 5th Street intersection with the handgun. More officers were requested to the scene and the defendant was detained. The occupants of the silver Nissan Altima stated they had just left the Tennessee Titans game at Nissan Stadium nearby, and the defendant had consumed multiple beers at the game.

Officer Jones observed a half-empty bottle of liquor on the front passenger seat floorboard of the vehicle, where the defendant had been sitting. Officer Jones then read the defendant his Miranda rights, after which the defendant continued to slur his words. On the way to booking the defendant made unsolicited statements that he had consumed a lot of alcohol at the Titans game because that’s what everyone does at football games.

Officer Colquhoun states he smelled a strong odor of alcoholic beverage on the defendant’s breath while placing him in the backseat of the patrol car. The defendant’s information was verified via ARMS and he was physically arrested and transported to booking. The firearm which the defendant was in the possession of was a black Taurus 9mm handgun bearing serial number [1C023163]. It was loaded with one round in the chamber and eleven rounds in the magazine.
