40-year-old tourist Mark Knechel was found in an extreme state of intoxication near KVB & 1st Ave South in downtown Nashville early Wednesday morning, acting erratically in the middle of the road. He reeked of alcohol, and when officers made contact, he knelt on the ground and began to yell, “These are dirty cops!” Knechel’s fiancée said they were staying at a nearby Holiday Inn. As officers were preparing to give them both a ride to their hotel, Knechel became even more agitated, upset an officer was speaking to his fiancée. Due to his continued disruptive behavior, he was placed into custody. When in the back of the patrol car and en route to booking, Knechel called 911 from his Apple watch and told the dispatcher he was “being kidnapped by crooked cops.”
