18-year-old Treston Cleveland was identified as the driver observed in a black Infiniti sedan without lights in the Hartman Park parking lot around 2:30 a.m. on August 15th. The sedan sped off as officers entered the parking lot and turned onto Tucker Road. While following the Infiniti, the police noticed it reached 60 mph. The Infiniti then ran through the Ashland City Highway and Clarksville Pike red light and proceeded west on Ashland City Highway. After this, officers lost sight of the sedan near Windhover Drive. Shortly after, Joshua Hurst, a citizen, flagged down Officer Hurst in front of a Windhover residence. Hurst stated that a vehicle had just crashed next to his house, causing damage to his carport’s downspout.
Hurst added that the occupants fled on foot after crashing. Officers then spoke with Michael Tarleton, whose property was crashed into. They discovered that his rock retaining wall had been damaged and would cost over $1,500 to repair. After this, officers located two individuals, one of whom was Cleveland, walking away from the scene. Officers conducted a show-up with Hurst, who confirmed they were the persons in question. When the police spoke with Cleveland, he implicated himself as the driver. During their investigation, officers discovered that Romeo Rivera had reported the black Infiniti stolen and that Cleveland did not have a valid driver’s license. Cleveland told the police that he got the car from his father and did not steal it. Cleveland was taken into custody for vehicle theft, no driver’s license, reckless driving, and leaving the scene of an accident.
Treston Cleveland was booked into the Metro Nashville Jail on August 15th, charged with grand theft auto, reckless driving, driving without a license and leaving the scene of an accident. A judicial commissioner set his bond at $12,500.
