30-year-old Robert Thompson was allegedly caught trespassing inside the Hobson Flats apartment complex on August 30th. When officers arrived, they were flagged by the person who called in the incident. The caller informed them of a suspicious black Volkswagen CC that they saw driving toward the back of the complex. She advised that the driver was also the individual who was trespassing in her home. She stated that the man left once he saw officers’ vehicles enter the complex. The caller also informed officers she believed that the driver was intoxicated. While officers spoke with the caller, another unit of officers had arrived. The black Volkswagen CC was then seen driving toward officers, then stopping, and reversing back to the rear end of the complex. When officers made their way to the end of the complex, they found that the Volkswagen was unoccupied and noted that its engine was still hot.
Once officers started walking back to their vehicles, they observed Thompson crouched behind parked cars, watching them. Once officers made contact with Thompson, they asked him if he was the driver of the Volkswagen, which he admitted he was. While speaking to Thompson, officers reported that they smelled the strong odor of alcohol coming from his breath. After being questioned about this, Thompson admitted that he had been drinking liquor earlier in the day. Thompson consented to perform sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment. Thompson then refused to continue and was taken into custody. After being read implied consent, Thompson refused and instead asked for his lawyer. This led to Thompson being transported to booking and charged with implied consent violation and driving under the influence.
Robert L. Thompson of Merchants Walk in Murfreesboro, TN, was booked into the Metro Nashville Jail on August 30th, charged with DUI and implied consent violation. He was released on his own recognizance.
