DUI: Ali Rezai causes car crash, too drunk to complete sobriety tests

58-year-old Ali Rezai was involved in a two-car accident on SR-386 East near Conference Drive around 1 p.m. on March 29th. Officers were dispatched to the scene, and Rezai spoke with them when they arrived. He reeked of alcohol as they asked him via a translator to take sobriety tests. He consented and performed poorly, unable to maintain his balance, so officers stopped the testing for his safety. Rezai agreed to provide a blood sample, was transported to Nashville General Hospital, and was taken into custody for driving under the influence.

DUI: Samuel Nissen drinks one craft beer before crashing car on I-24 East

29-year-old Samuel Allen Nissen was involved in a two-car accident on I-24 East near exit 54 on March 24th. When detectives arrived, they spoke with Nissen and discovered he was the driver. He told them that he did not have a valid driver’s license. While Nissen was speaking, officers noticed that he showed multiple signs of impairment and asked him to take sobriety tests. Nissen consented to sobriety tests and performed poorly. After explaining implied consent, Nissen agreed to provide a breath sample, resulting in 0.026 BAC%. He was Mirandized and then admitted to drinking one craft beer but could not remember what size, brand, or how strong it was. Nissen was taken into custody for driving without a valid license and driving under the influence.

John Bowman tells police he “was not drunk” after causing accident on I-24

28-year-old John Bowman had a single-vehicle accident on I-24 East exit 57B in the early morning hours of February 28th. While officers were gathering information, they noticed he reeked of alcohol. Bowman told them he was not drunk without being prompted. He then told them he only had one drink, adding that it was an hour and a half before the crash. After he was transported to Southern Hills, he took sobriety tests, performed poorly, and agreed to provide a blood sample after being informed about implied consent. He was then cited for the incident. Bowman was booked on a citation for driving under the influence on March 26th.

DUI: Robert Reich drinks 25-ounce Bud Ice before rolling car over

51-year-old Robert Paul Reich was involved in a single-vehicle rollover collision on Charlotte Pike near Starbucks late February 28th. When officers arrived, they observed Reich was unconscious in his vehicle. NFD personnel extracted Reich from his car, which was rolled onto the driver’s side, and transported him to Vanderbilt. Detectives located an empty 25-ounce Bud Ice beer can and an empty vodka shooter bottle in his car. While at the hospital, Reich reeked of alcohol and had difficulty staying awake while speaking with officers. Despite this, Reich agreed to provide a blood sample. Reich was cited for the incident that day. Reich was booked on the citation of driving under the influence on March 26th.

DUI: Joshua Martin nearly hits two pedestrians after drinking “two beers” before driving

35-year-old Joshua Henry Martin drove through a red light and almost struck two pedestrians near the 3rd Avenue North and Broadway intersection in the early hours of March 24th. An APS Security employee, William Fenton, observed this, demanded Martin to stop, and notified officers. Officers told Martin to turn off and exit his vehicle when they arrived. Officers then asked if he had been drinking, to which Martin admitted to having “two beers,” adding he was on his way home. He consented to sobriety tests, performed poorly, and then refused to provide a sample after being explained implied consent. Martin was taken into custody for driving under the influence and implied consent.

DUI: Clement Chishimba drinks “a cognac” before crashing semi-truck into multiple cars

45-year-old Clement Chishimba swerved in his semi-truck with a trailer, hitting three vehicles, pinning one against the concrete wall on I-65 North near mile marker 95 on March 25th. During the incident, the semi rear-ended another vehicle before sliding down the wall to its resting place. When officers arrived, they approached Chishimba and noticed he was in his sleeping quarters, rummaging through bags. Officers then asked Chishimba for his driver’s credentials, but he continued to rummage through the back of the truck. Officers questioned him multiple times, which was when they stepped closer and noted he reeked of alcohol. Officers asked Chishimba if he would take sobriety tests. Chishimba consented to sobriety tests, performed poorly, and was detained. A subsequent search of his vehicle resulted in officers locating two empty 40-ounce Heineken and two empty 40-ounce Redd’s Wicked Apple Seltzer. Chishimba admitted to drinking “a cognac” before driving and was taken into custody for driving under the influence.

DUI: Jodie Simpson crashes car on Lebanon Pike after snorting Xanax

45-year-old Jodie Simpson was involved in a car accident on Lebanon Pike late March 27th. When officers arrived, they observed Simpson in the passenger seat, where she advised that she was turning left when an oncoming car hit her vehicle. Officers noticed she showed signs consistent with being under the influence of an opiate. Simpson then stated she was prescribed Gabapentin and Metoprolol, adding that she had not taken any medication since yesterday afternoon. Simpson consented to sobriety tests, performed poorly, and agreed to provide a chemical sample after being informed about implied consent. Officers detained her and searched her car, during which they located a straw with a blue powdery substance in her purse. The blue powder found in the straw was consistent with her prescription of Alprazolam, a generic version of Xanax. Additionally, officers located her prescription Adderall and discovered that she was not taking the medications as prescribed after checking the date it was filled. Officers obtained a search warrant to obtain two vials of blood and transported her to Nashville General Hospital for the blood draw. Simpson was taken into custody for unlawful use of drug paraphernalia and driving under the influence.

DUI: Kanette Campbell attempts to bite officers during blood draw, flushes pills in toilet

38-year-old Kanette Latrease Campbell collided with a white Chevy Tahoe on I-40 East near mile marker 216 early March 25th. When officers arrived, they observed the Tahoe and the grey Chevy Malibu, which belonged to Campbell, with extensive, disabling damage. The Tahoe had heavy rear-end damage, and the Malibu sustained front-end damage, suggesting a severe rear-end collision. Officers spoke to Campbell, and she admitted to being the driver and sole occupant of the Malibu. When medical personnel asked her if she wanted to be transported to the hospital, Campbell appeared confused. Campbell then repeatedly stated, “Whatever my children want me to do,” since they were on the scene of the collision. Eventually, Campbell refused medical attention, consented to sobriety tests, and performed poorly on them. Campbell then declined to provide a chemical sample after being informed about implied consent. The driver of the Tahoe was transported to a local hospital with pain in his back and legs. Campbell was transported to Nashville General Hospital, where she had to be restrained for her blood to be obtained since she kept refusing and resisting after being told to stop multiple times.  During the blood draw, she tried to bite officer’s hands, putting them in fear while they were restraining her. Additionally, Campbell discarded multiple unknown pills when she used the bathroom in the presence of Hospital Staff. Later, officers found two pills in Campbell’s pocket. One was an Ibuprofen, and the other was a muscle relaxer, but she did not have a prescription. Campbell was taken into custody for legend drug possession, tampering with evidence, resisting arrest, implied consent, driving under the influence, and the assault of an officer.

DUI: Marco Castro-Imperial crashes into wood line near I-24 East after drinking 7 Michelob Ultras

27-year-old Marco Antonio Castro Imperial drove his blue 2003 Mini Cooper off the roadway, crashing into the wood line near I-24 East at mile marker 38.6 in the early hours of March 23rd. Officers were on a traffic stop when this occurred right behind their patrol car, so they approached and spoke with Castro-Imperial, who was visibly intoxicated. Then, officers noticed seven empty Michelob Ultras on the passenger side floorboard and asked him to exit the vehicle for sobriety tests. Castro-Imperial consented to sobriety tests and performed poorly. Officers also found a bag of marijuana and discovered that Castro-Imperial did not have a valid driver’s license. He was detained and refused to provide a chemical sample after being informed of implied consent. So, officers obtained a search warrant and transported Castro-Imperial to Saint Thomas Mid-Town for a blood draw. Castro-Imperial was then taken into custody for driving under the influence, driving without a valid license, and simple possession.

DUI: Kyle Thompson crashes car into utility pole, tells police he “just saw the pole and hit it”

36-year-old Kyle William Thompson crashed his car into a utility pole near The Temple on Harding Pike late March 26th. When officers arrived, they observed that the pole was split in half and that the vehicle had sustained significant damage. Bystanders pointed at Thompson, sitting in an embankment beside a tree without shoes. Officers approached him, during which they noticed he reeked of alcohol, showing signs of intoxication. While in the NFD ambulance, he said, “Just saw the pole and hit it.” Thompson added that he was driving from his Bellevue apartment to pick up a friend from the bar. Thompson admitted to drinking two Budweiser Beers about an hour and a half before driving. He consented to sobriety tests, performed poorly, and refused to provide a chemical sample after being explained implied consent. Thompson was taken into custody for driving under the influence and implied consent.
