DUI: Johnnetta Penrose caught with marijuana in car, congratulates officers for finding her “$20 bag of weed”

46-year-old Johnnetta Penrose sped in her white Buick SUV and ran through the red light, nearly colliding with a U-Haul truck on Fesslers Lane in the early hours of March 13th. Officers observed this and conducted a traffic stop. As Officers approached the driver’s side, they noticed a small bag of marijuana on top of an ashtray in the center cupholder near a Patron Bottle, which was almost empty. Officers questioned Penrose, and she admitted to drinking, adding that she had just left a friend’s house, where they celebrated and consumed the Patron. Detectives asked if Penrose would be willing to take sobriety tests, which she consented to and performed poorly on. Before Penrose took the field tests, she tried to hide the bag of marijuana while getting out of her SUV. Penrose was detained, and officers tried to explain implied consent to her, but she was unwilling to listen, interrupting them repeatedly. Officers located an open bottle of Pinot wine behind the driver’s seat during a subsequent search of her Buick. On the way to booking, she continuously congratulated officers on finding her “$20 bag of weed.” Penrose was taken into custody for driving under the influence, implied consent, an open container violation, and simple possession.

DUI: Jonathan Martin swerves between lanes in Dodge Ram after drinking Buffalo Trace Bourbon

59-year-old Jonathan Martin drove his Dodge Ram slower than the posted speed limit, swerving between lanes on Harding Place near Interstate 65 in the early hours of March 12th. Officers observed this and conducted a traffic stop. Officers noticed Martin reeked of alcohol as they approached him. Martin then admitted to drinking, so officers transported him to a safe location to take sobriety tests, which he performed poorly. Martin was detained and agreed to provide a breath sample, which resulted in 0.64 BAC%. While searching Martin’s Dodge Ram, officers located an open bottle of Buffalo Trace Bourbon in a brown paper bag on the passenger’s seat. Officers also found multiple other alcohol containers and a handgun. Martin was taken into custody for driving under the influence, an open container violation, and the possession of a weapon while being under the influence.  

DUI: Anthony Davis drives with no vehicle lights on after one margarita

58-year-old Anthony Davis was seen traveling on Old Hickory Boulevard West without his vehicle lights on March 2nd. An officer initiated a traffic stop and made contact with Davis, who admitted to drinking a single margarita. Davis consented to sobriety tests, performed poorly, and then requested to use a breathalyzer. His BAC was .060%, but the test was taken an hour after the initial stop. The officers conducted a probable cause search of his vehicle and located several small liquor bottles. Anthony Davis was taken into custody and charged with driving under the influence and open container.

DUI: Kenneth Moore drives on 2 flat tires, repeatedly asks police to kill him

27-year-old Kenneth Moore drove with two completely flat tires on the morning of February 26th. Officers observed this and initiated a traffic stop. After stopping, Moore exited his vehicle, grabbed an air pump, and attempted to fill his tires, disregarding the officers pulling him over. Moore showed multiple signs of intoxication as officers asked him how much he had to drink that night, causing him to become angry. Then, Moore made an angry face and clenched his fists, which officers believed indicated he was about to attempt to fight them, so they detained him. After officers Mirandized Moore, he kept asking them to kill him, stating that he wanted them to “Put a bullet in my head,” and said, “This would be so easy if you just f*cking kill me.” Moore started yelling at officers when they placed him in the back of the patrol car. When officers informed Moore of implied consent, he replied, “Here is what I am going to do. I am going to attempt to escape, so you shoot me in the head.” During a subsequent search of Moore’s vehicle, officers located four cans of Natty Ice beer, a small vodka shooter, and a half-empty vodka bottle underneath the driver’s seat. Moore was taken into custody for an open-container violation, driving under the influence, and implied consent.

Deandrecus Ford caught driving stolen Audi A5 without a license

31-year-old Deandrecus Ford was jailed on February 19th when officers observed an Audi A5 with no tags driving on Glastonbury Road toward Massman Drive. Officers initiated a traffic stop, and Ford could not provide a registration. It was also discovered that Mr. Ford was driving on a suspended license. Officers ran the vehicle’s VIN and determined the car was stolen out of Memphis on February 17th. Ford was taken into custody and said he purchased the car from a friend for $900. A search of the vehicle yielded one marijuana bud and a digital scale. Officers also located an open bottle of Jack Daniels in the car. Ford admitted to knowing it was there from the day before. In the trunk of the vehicle, officers located signs for “Shelandra Ford” for office in Shelby County. Mr. Ford told officers that it was his mother. When officers called the unnamed victim, they accurately described Mr. Ford as the thief. The victim said he gave Mr. Ford a ride and stepped out of the vehicle to run something inside. When he came back out, the car was gone. The 2010 Audi A5 is valued at approximately $5,482. Mr. Ford has an extensive criminal history in Shelby County, including two robberies, two attempts at identity theft, burglary, theft, and multiple drug charges. Ford was taken into custody on February 19th for theft of a vehicle, drug paraphernalia, and driving on a suspended license.

Jason Counce charged with DUI — blows 0.259% BAC

54-year-old Jason Parker Counce swerved through traffic lanes, nearly striking a cement truck on Briley Parkway South on February 21st. Officers observed this and conducted a traffic stop near Karen Drive. They approached the driver’s side and asked Counce why he was swerving, and he told them he had been drinking. He further explained that he had “two Vodkas” as officers noticed him showing multiple signs of impairment. Counce consented to sobriety tests, performed poorly, and provided a breath sample, which resulted in 0.259% BAC. He was taken into custody for driving under the influence and transported to booking.

Mariyah Reid vandalizes ex-boyfriend’s Xbox during altercation

21-year-old Mariyah Reid had an altercation with her ex-boyfriend, Shantonio Je’quan Hurt, at his apartment on Bell Road on February 6th. Hurt spoke to officers, advising them that Reid became angry and poured water on his Xbox game console and TV before she left. Reid agreed to return and speak with the officers. Reid admitted to pouring the water on Hurt’s Xbox and TV. Reid was deemed the primary aggressor and was taken into custody for vandalism.

DUI: Brent Kitchens drinks beer before crashing into brick wall

22-year-old Brent Kitchens sped northbound on Nolensville Pike before swerving and colliding with a brick wall on the morning of February 7th. Officers witnessed this, and when they approached him, he stated he “messed up” and admitted to drinking alcoholic beverages at his friend’s house before driving. He was visibly intoxicated as he consented to sobriety tests, performed poorly, and provided a blood sample after being informed of implied consent. Officers located an open bottle of beer in his center console, and then he was taken into custody for driving under the influence and an open container violation.

Jalen Transley performs U-turn across multiple lanes, crashes car attempting to flee from police

20-year-old Jalen Transley failed to use his turn signal when turning right onto Murfreesboro Road from Hamilton Church Road late January 28th. Officers observed this and initiated a traffic stop. Transley pulled over before driving off in an attempt to flee. Transley then caused a crash when he performed a U-turn across multiple lanes. Officers had ordered all occupants to exit the vehicle when Transley’s two passengers quickly jumped out of the car and fled the scene. Transley exited the vehicle but did not flee and was detained. A subsequent search of Transley and his vehicle yielded marijuana paraphernalia and an open container of alcohol. Further investigation showed Transley had a suspended license and an outstanding failure-to-book warrant. Transley was taken into custody for driving with a suspended license, an open container violation, reckless driving, the unlawful use of drug paraphernalia, and evading arrest.

Rainee Gregg blows 0.295% BAC after Briley Parkway crash

29-year-old Rainee Gregg had a single-car accident where she collided with a concrete guardrail near Briley Parkway and Kenton Place in the early hours of January 22nd. Gregg was sitting in the driver’s seat when the officers arrived. They opened the door and noticed several open Budweiser cans on the driver’s side floorboard. Gregg was unsteady as she walked away from the vehicle with a minor scratch on her head but refused medical attention. Officers observed her to be visibly intoxicated as she admitted to drinking three cocktails at a company party. She consented to sobriety tests, performed poorly, refused to do another test, and told them that this would be the time that she called an Uber. They detained her, and read her implied consent, then she agreed to provide a breath sample, which resulted in 0.295% BAC. She further explained that she was coming from Jasper’s and had consumed 3-4 tequila sodas at a post-holiday company party. Gregg was taken into custody for an open container violation and driving under the influence.
