Tourist Christian Veneracion given $20 bond, then pre-trial release, for downtown disorderly conduct

23-year-old Christian Veneracion was jailed in Nashville after police say he became enraged about the arrest of his friend at 301 Broadway in downtown Nashville. He was advised to leave the premises but continued to yell and scream at officers handing the other arrest and then got “within breathing distance” of Officer Papp while continuing to yell at time. He was placed into custody for disorderly conduct. Before being given pre-trial, his bond was set at $20.

Jayla Shepard free on pre-trial release after being found with Glock & marijuana during traffic stop

18-year-old Jayla Shepard faced multiple charges after police say she was the front-seat passenger in a vehicle driven by her 17-year-old boyfriend that was stopped at the I-24/I-40 interchange. Officers immediately noticed a “large amount” of marijuana in the center console area along with some joints. A search of the car revealed a backpack behind Shepard’s seat containing another just over a half-pound of marijuana, baggies, scales, and a Glock 17 with no serial number. The juvenile boyfriend denied possession of any of the items, and Shepard claimed the marijuana was hers “but we both smoke it”, and states the juvenile bought the gun for her, but she was afraid of it. She is free on pre-trial release, charged with two felonies and three misdemeanors.

Police charge Perdue College student Ian Rant with DUI in Nashville hotel parking lot

Metro Police responded to the Millenium Maxwell House Hotel Sunday afternoon when it was reported that two individuals were passed out in a vehicle in the parking lot. Behind the wheel of the Volkswagen was 19-year-old Ian Rant, who says he came down to Nashville from Perdue University for the weekend. He had checked out of the hotel but stated he was sleeping in the car because he was too impaired to drive. Rant stated he drank ten shots of vodka and ate some marijuana edibles around 10 p.m. the night before. Police found a marijuana pen on his person, a bottle of vodka in a backpack, along with packages of marijuana edibles. He is charged with DUI and is free on pre-trial release. Metro Nashville Police confirmed Monday that neither Rant, 19, nor anyone else, was cited or charged for any of the other items, edibles, marijuana, open vodka, or other paraphernalia in the vehicle.

Melinda Newpher, 72, charged with DUI, found sitting at a traffic light — 0.203% BAC

When officers found 72-year-old Melinda Newpher behind the wheel of her 2014 Ford Explorer on Acklen Avenue they say she was so intoxicated she couldn’t even perform standard field sobriety tests safely and had to hold onto an officer to stand up. She was reportedly disoriented and reeked of alcohol. She explained she was going “home” and coming from “here”. Newpher would later blow a 0.203% BAC on a breathalyzer, over twice the legal limit in Tennessee. A witness says she sat through several traffic light cycles and could be seen nodding off and sleeping while behind the wheel.

Kelli Diaz, 55, found slumped over behind wheel with baggie of cocaine at McDonald’s

55-year-old Kelli Diaz faces DUI and drug possession charges after police say was found unconscious in the driver’s seat of her running vehicle at a McDonald’s. When first responders arrived, she had a small plastic bag containing cocaine in her hand and she was slumped over the center console. Three empty baggies with white powder residue were also found on the seat beside her, along with a snort straw. Prescription bottles containing Adderall, Diazepam, and Zoloft were also in the vehicle. She was charged with DUI, drug and paraphernalia possession, and given pre-trial release.

One man, two cups, while driving: Thomas Hardin explains one cup is red wine, the other is white wine — DUI

When police asked 64-year-old Thomas Hardin why he had two different cups of wine in his cupholders, with varying amounts missing from each, he succinctly explained that one was for his red wine, and one for his white wine, both of which he was drinking behind the wheel of his vehicle Thursday night. Police were responding to a vehicle vs. pedestrian call when they located Hardin behind the wheel, obviously intoxicated. He stated “I can’t do this” during field sobriety tests, and also admitted to drinking at a venue prior to driving, too.

DUI: Kyle Coolidge blows 0.229% BAC after crash

31-year-old Kyle Coolidge crashed into another driver at a red light just before 3 a.m. Sunday. He attempted to flee the scene multiple times, resulting in the other driver removing the keys from Coolridge’s possession. Coolridge then fell asleep in the time it took the police to arrive at the accident scene. He would eventually blow a 0.229% BAC and be charged with DUI.
