Parent goes wild at McGavok Elementary: Joshua Quinn threatens to bring gun

38-year-old Joshua Edward Quinn had a dispute with his child’s principal, Rae Covey, and other staff members at McGavock Elementary on April 1st. When officers arrived, they were informed that Quinn had a history of being disruptive at the school, adding that he previously told them, “I do not want to have to bring my gun with me to drop my kid off.” They said a verbal disagreement escalated, prompting him to go past where he is allowed on school premises to his kid’s classroom, where he caused a disturbance, knocking on the door loudly. They said that after he was told to leave, he would go around the school to the other door attached to the classroom and start banging on it. Staff members said that Quinn would repeatedly go to areas where he was not allowed and that whenever they tried to explain his unacceptable behavior, he got irate, screamed, and left. Covey and the staff notified him via email, phone call, and certified mail that he placed them in fear and that there was zero tolerance for his presence at the school. Then, on April 1st, he went up to the school, telling Covey he would keep coming back and that his zero-tolerance proposal would be “non-negotiable.” Officers reviewed footage showing him arguing about the notice. Quinn was taken into custody for criminal trespass.
