Courtney Norman points gun at herself to get ex-boyfriend’s attention during argument

44-year-old Courtney Norman had an altercation with her ex-boyfriend, Richard Thomas Holland IV, at his 20th Avenue South apartment on May 11th. A third party alerted the authorities, stating that Holland IV’s ex-girlfriend was inside his unit with a firearm. Upon arrival, officers interacted with Norman and found that she was not holding the gun, but it was underneath some pillows on the bed she was sitting on. Then, officers noticed a shell casing on the bed, which Norman admitted was from when she accidentally fired the weapon. Norman added that Holland IV attempted to grab the gun from her. Norman said she “did not remember,” pointing the gun at him, only holding it by her side and aiming it at herself for his attention.

Then, officers spoke with Holland IV, who said he was trying to get her to leave, which sparked an argument because she did not want to. Holland IV said he decided to leave instead, and when he returned, Norman demanded his phone. After he refused, he said she used her gun to “wave around” and threaten him until he gave it to her. Holland IV stated that she continued “acting overemotionally” and that he tried to grab her arm to get the gun from her. Holland IV said this caused the gun to discharge, causing him to run out of the room until the police arrived. Norman was taken into custody for aggravated assault.
