DUI: Musician Joshua Gallagher runs red light after having “A Couple shots of Tequila”
33-year-old Joshua Gallagher failed to stop at a red light on Demonbreun Street in the late hours of December 2nd. After observing this, officers conducted a traffic stop and noticed Gallagher was slow to stop. Gallagher immediately placed both hands out of his windows even though officers did not command so, nor did he have any weapons in the vehicle. He was visibly intoxicated as he admitted to knowing why he was pulled over and to having two tall beers and “a couple shots of tequila.” Officers Mirandized Gallagher, and he refused to take sobriety tests without a lawyer present. He was taken into custody for driving under the influence and implied consent. Additionally, officers searched his vehicle before having it towed. They discovered an open, nearly empty beer can under his front seat, so Gallagher was also charged with an open container violation.
Ishan Patel charged in DUI crash in downtown Nashville parking garage
23-year-old Ishan Patel was involved in a car accident in the parking garage of the downtown Nashville Hilton in the early hours of November 27th. A security guard for the parking garage advised officers that he heard a loud bang from a distance, and as officers arrived, Patel was seen trying to flee the scene. The security guard stated that he convinced Patel to step out of the vehicle before the officers arrived. He was visibly intoxicated and told officers that he had two shots of vodka. Officers observed that he urinated on himself before they got to the scene, deemed him unable to take care of himself, and placed him into custody for driving under the influence and implied consent.
DUI: Jorge Melgar found stumbling around vehicle
24-year-old Jorge Melgar was jailed on November 19th after police observed a truck parked on an embankment in the area of Clarksville Pike and Buena Vista. Melgar was in the parking lot, swaying and stumbling around behind the vehicle. Officers could smell alcohol on Melgar’s breath as he admitted that he had been drinking that night and stated that he was on his way home. When officers asked him where his home was, he gave an address that was approximately 20 minutes away but kept telling officers that it was right down the road. Melgar refused to do sobriety tests and was placed into custody. During a pat down, officers discovered a Glock 43 in his front pocket. The gun wasn’t loaded, but there were three rounds in the magazine.
DUI: Matthew Thomas Jr. consumes 24oz beer before driving
53-year-old Matthew Thomas Jr. flagged down an officer on East Old Hickory Blvd. in the late hours of November 20th, indicating that he had been in a car crash. Officers confirmed the accident via dispatch, where the other party was waiting to speak with them. The other driver eventually came to where they were and alerted officers of the possible injury he sustained. Officers could see Thomas was visibly intoxicated, and he even admitted to consuming a 24oz beer 2 hours prior but also stated that he waited an hour and a half for the police at the scene, leaving only 30 minutes between when he consumed the beer and when he began driving. Thomas kept repeating that he “pulled over to speak to the police and not the other way around.” He also confirmed that he rear-ended the other vehicle. Thomas refused to provide a blood sample, was read an implied consent form, and was taken into custody for driving under the influence and implied consent.
DUI: Jacob Walker, 20, charged with underage drinking after crashing into two vehicles
20-year-old Jacob Walker was involved in a crash at the intersection of 33rd Avenue North and Alameda St. on November 1st. TSU police alerted officers regarding an impaired driver crashing into two vehicles, fleeing, and then returning to the scene. Officers spoke with Walker, who was visibly intoxicated as he admitted to leaving the scene, consuming alcohol, and being too impaired to drive. Walker consented to sobriety tests and performed poorly. Walker refused to provide a breath sample and spoke with witnesses who positively identified him. Walker was placed in custody for leaving the scene of an accident, implied consent, driving under the influence, and underage consumption of alcohol.
DUI: Stephen Gill crashes into semi-truck after drinking at South Nashville bar
28-year-old William Stephen Gill told police he had just left a gay bar South of downtown Nashville, where he had been drinking, when he was in an accident with a semi-truck near the intersection of Murfreesboro Pike and Spence Lane. He performed poorly on field sobriety tests, and refused all other testing and questions. He was taken into custody and charged with DUI.
DUI: Steven Strickland jailed after passing out behind the wheel of a vehicle
42-year-old Steven Strickland was passed out in his running vehicle on October 26th. When police arrived, the vehicle was off as Strickland spoke with medics. The medics advised officers that Strickland was having difficulty answering questions but was coherent. He was visibly intoxicated and admitted to medics that he had been drinking earlier. He then admitted to officers that he had “three beers a couple of hours ago.” He was hesitant to perform sobriety tests but eventually agreed, performed poorly, and was taken into custody.
Musician Stephen Cole Capshaw charged with DUI after violating the move-over law
38-year-old Stephen Cole Capshaw violated the move-over law on I-440 E on October 24th. Officers initiated a traffic stop on a pick-up truck for a traffic violation and observed Capshaw as they approached the driver’s side. Capshaw failed to provide a driver’s license or any form of identification and was visibly intoxicated as he got out of the car. Officers observed a Miller Lite can leaking on the floorboard and found more cans in the bed of the pick-up. Capshaw was charged with implied consent and driving under the influence.
Taylor Crannis charged with DUI after crashing into utility pole
36-year-old Taylor Crannis crashed into a curb and a telephone pole at Charlotte Ave. on October 22nd. Officers were dispatched to Charlotte Ave. regarding a vehicle crash and observed Crannis standing outside a black Ford as they arrived. Crannis told officers he was the driver of the Ford and walked away from the scene as they investigated the accident. Officers detained Crannis and conducted sobriety tests where he performed poorly but refused to do the walk-and-turn test or give a blood or breath sample. Crannis’s license returned as suspended once officers ran it through the system. Crannis was taken into custody for driving under the influence, driving on a suspended license, leaving the scene of an accident, and implied consent violation.
