28-year-old Diante Wilkes is charged with breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s car and taking her speakers. Once he learned she had reported the incident and warrants had been issued for his arrest he reportedly began to text his ex, Jessica Carter, and make threats of physical violence if she didn’t “cancel the warrants”. In addition to the open warrants for theft and auto burglary, Wilkes was booked into the Metro Nashville Jail earlier this week, also charged with coercion of a witness. He remains jailed in lieu of a $7,500 bond.

COMPLAINT:
2022-0002236
ARREST WARRANT / AFFIDAVIT:
The victim and the defendant used to be in a dating relationship. The defendant has two active arrest warrants for theft and motor vehicle burglary of which the victim in this case is also the victim. The victim received text messages yesterday, 1/1/2022, from (615) 894-1611, which is the phone number that the victim states the defendant uses and which is the phone number that the defendant provided to officers as his own for a report made in July of 2021.

In the messages, the sender speaks as the defendant and threatens to physically assault the victim multiple times if she does not cancel the warrants. The victim states that the phrasing and spelling of the messages are distinctly the defendant’s (for instance, use of the uncommon phrase “no cap”).

The messages also reference the defendant babysitting the victim’s child, which is not a detail another sender would be likely to know. Officers responded to a domestic call for service at 734 Moormans Arm Rd. When officers arrived, they spoke with the victim, Jessica Carter. She advised that her ex-boyfriend, Diante Wilkes, broke into her vehicle, which was parked outside the listed location, and took her speakers. She advised that her nephew, Joseph Hegwood, was the person that saw the defendant commit the crime and was able to positively identify him while it was happening.
