32-year-old Travel Nurse Megan Elizabeth Thaggard is jailed in lieu of a $7,500 bond after police found her crashed into a crosswalk pole in downtown Nashville. When they attempted to provide her with medical assistance she refused, declaring “I don’t need care, because I’m a traveling RN!” She would eventually blow a 0.151 % BAC on a breathalyzer after admitting to drinking prior to driving. She also had a 9mm Kimber loaded with hollow-point bullets in the car within her reach. She actively resisted arrest for several minutes until police were eventually able to get her into custody. She was transported a few hundred feet to booking and charged with DUI, handgun under the influence, resisting arrest, and no insurance.

COMPLAINT:
2021-0638504
ARREST WARRANT / AFFIDAVIT:
ON 12/17/2021 POLICE RESPONDED TO A SINGLE-VEHICLE ACCIDENT AT THE INTERSECTION OF GAY ST / JAMES ROBERTSON PKWY. ONCE ON SCENE POLICE FOUND THE DEFENDANT’S VEHICLE WRECKED INTO A CROSSWALK POLE. THE DEFENDANT WAS THE SINGLE OCCUPANT/DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE.

POLICE ASKED THE DRIVER TO PERFORM SFST’S ON THE SIDEWALK NEXT TO JAMES ROBERTSON PKWY. THE DEFENDANT PERFORMED SO POORLY ON THE SFST’S, POLICE ENDED THE TASKS EARLY FOR HER OWN SAFETY. THE DEFENDANT ALSO SEEMED PREOCCUPIED WITH INSISTING SHE NEEDED HEADACHE MEDICATION BEFORE CONTINUING THE SFST’S.

POLICE OFFERED TO CALL NFD MEDICS MULTIPLE TIMES FOR THE DEFENDANT WHO REFUSED EACH TIME AND STATED THAT SHE DOESN’T NEED MEDICAL CARE BECAUSE SHE IS A TRAVELING NURSE. POLICE TOOK THE DEFENDANT INTO CUSTODY AND ADVISED HER OF HER MIRANDA RIGHTS.

THE DEFENDANT ADMITTED TO POLICE SHE HAD CONSUMED ALCOHOL EARLIER IN THE NIGHT, PRIOR TO DRIVING HER VEHICLE. THE DEFENDANT HAD BLOODSHOT WATERY EYES, WAS UNSTEADY ON HER FEET, AND HAD SLURRED SPEECH. THE DEFENDANT CONSENTED TO A BREATH TEST AND BLEW A .151 G/21 OL.

THE DEFENDANT WAS UNABLE TO PROVIDE POLICE WITH INSURANCE ON THE VEHICLE, AND WHEN ASKED SHE TOLD POLICE SHE HAS NONE. THE DEFENDANT HAD A KIMBER MICRO 9MM HANDGUN WITHIN REACH OF HER PERSON WHILE OPERATING HER MOTOR VEHICLE UNDER THE INFLUENCE. THE HANDGUN WAS LOADED WITH FOUR HOLLOW-POINT 9MM BULLETS.

WHEN POLICE ATTEMPTED TO PLACE HANDCUFFS ON THE DEFENDANT, THE DEFENDANT PULLED AWAY FROM THE POLICE AND REFUSED TO PLACE HER ARMS BEHIND HER BACK. POLICE ATTEMPTED TO PLACE THE DEFENDANT’S ARMS BEHIND HER BACK AND THE DEFENDANT ACTIVELY USED FORCE TO PREVENT HER ARMS FROM BEING PLACED BEHIND HER BACK.

ONCE POLICE FINALLY HAD THE DEFENDANT’S ARMS BEHIND HER BACK, SHE CONTINUED TO ATTEMPT TO PULL HER ARMS FREE AND BREAK AWAY FROM THE POLICE. DUE TO THE DEFENDANT’S OBVIOUS INTOXICATED STATE, SHE WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY DUE TO BEING A DANGER TO HERSELF AND OTHERS.
