DUI: Shammah Gatewood drinks 34oz beer before crashing vehicle on Christmas Eve, tells officer “I feel safe to drive”

44-year-old Shammah Caleb Gatewood had a car accident on I-24 in the early hours of Christmas Eve. Officers arrived, noticed the two vehicles, and spoke with Gatewood, who was visibly intoxicated. He used his vehicle to maintain balance while officers questioned him and advised them that he was coming from The Thirsty Turtle, admitting to having a 34 oz. beer two hours before the crash. He refused sobriety tests repeatedly, stating, “I feel safe to drive.” Gatewood was taken into custody for driving under the influence.

Shammah Caleb Gatewood of Big Oak Drive in Nashville, TN, was booked into the Metro Nashville Jail on December 24th, charged with driving under the influence. A judicial commissioner set his bond at $1,000, and the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office gave him pre-trial release from their facility.
