20-year-old Josiah Owens was involved in a group fight in front of the Toro Event Center in the early hours of April 14th. Upon arrival, officers were informed that one of the individuals, later identified as Ownes, presented a Glock pistol with a switch on it. Owens grabbed his AR-15 pistol out of his backseat while officers walked through the parking lot. They commanded Owens to drop the firearm, which he did after running for about five feet. After dropping the weapon, he ran approximately 50 feet before complying and lying on the ground, where the officers recovered the pistol and noticed it had the serial number scratched off. They asked him why he scratched it off, and he stated it “was just because.” Owens was then taken into custody for the alteration of an item’s distinguishing numbers.
