28-year-old Andres Leon Gonzalez was speeding on I-65 South near Mile Marker 80.6 in the early hours of April 19th. Officers observed him going 76 mph in a 55 mph zone and conducted a traffic stop. When officers approached the car, they noticed he had a front passenger and asked him for his driver’s license, to which he said he did not have one. Then, Gonzalez handed them his Mexico ID. During their interaction, Gonzalez reeked of alcohol and admitted to having one beer before telling them he had three 12-ounce Modelos at the Déjà Vu strip club about 30 minutes before the traffic stop. Officers requested a Spanish-speaking officer to administer sobriety tests, which he consented to and performed poorly. Gonzalez was detained and read implied consent, where he agreed to provide a blood sample. Gonzalez was transported to St. Thomas Midtown Hospital and then was taken into custody for driving under the influence.
