19-year-old Donovan Bender was taken into custody for theft of a firearm. On April 13th officers conducted a traffic stop near Hadley Park. They arrested the driver, Abanoub Awed, and told the other occupants to exit the vehicle and leave the scene. During a search, officers recovered a black Glock 45 9mm under the front passenger seat. While retrieving Awed’s ID, officers grabbed Bender’s ID by mistake and were advised by the driver that he was the front passenger. When Officers ran the serial number for the firearm, it returned as reported stolen by Leonel Perez. The police identified Bender via body cam footage and the ID they located, so a warrant was issued for his arrest on April 15th, and he was booked on April 18th.
Donovan K Bender of Margaret Robertson Drive in Hermitage, TN, was booked into the Metro Nashville Jail on April 18th, charged with theft of firearm. He is free on a $1,000 bond.
