DUI: Karvon Chandler charged after he sped to 90 mph in front of police

22-year-old Karvon Chandler was jailed on July 2nd for evading police after a night of drinking at a local club. Police observed a silver Chevy Camaro pull in front of them on Buchanon Street and followed it to Clarksville Pike, where it sped up to 60 mph in a 45-mph zone. Officers turned on their blue lights and sirens in an attempt to pull the Camaro over, but it sped up to almost 90 mph. The police pulled to the side of the road because they didn’t want to initiate a chase. While the officers were stopped, they noticed the Camaro had pulled into the Cumberland View Apartments parking lot.

The officers approached the vehicle and noticed the driver was not inside. A woman came outside asking the officers what they wanted with the car, and they asked her if she knew the driver. She told them that the driver was her nephew and was inside her apartment because he called her, stating he was drunk and needed a place to stay for the night. The officers asked to speak with Chandler, so the aunt led them to her apartment. When they reached the apartment, Chandler came out the front door and told police he was the one driving and that he didn’t stop because he was scared and confused. He admitted to drinking alcohol while he was at a club. Chandler said while he was driving, he realized it was late, and he was drunk and turned around to go home. He was taken into custody and blew a 0.169% BAC on a breathalyzer.
