19-year-old Makenzee Martinez had a domestic incident with her cousin and roommate, Mayah Delarose, on the night of March 13th. Delarose spoke with detectives when they arrived, advising them that she and Martinez had been arguing on and off for the past few days. Delarose explained that the argument turned physical when Martinez lunged at her and started punching her in the face repeatedly, leaving bruises on her upper lip and left cheek. Delarose responded by delivering several strikes in return in an attempt to defend herself. During the fight, Martinez and Delarose fell to the ground, where Martinez got on top of Delarose and began pulling her hair. Then, two other residents, including Martinez’s mother, intervened and separated them. Martinez spoke with officers, provided a similar statement to Delarose, and admitted to starting the scuffle when she lunged at her. Afterward, officers talked to Martinez’s mother, who confirmed that her daughter had started the fight. Officers then spoke to the other witness, who advised them that they did not know how it started but added that they had seen Martinez pulling her hair. Martinez was deemed as the primary aggressor and then was taken into custody for domestic assault.
