45-year-old Scott Mentzer chose jail over an uber. On Mar 2nd, officers were flagged down by security at Miranda Lambert’s on Broadway. As officers walked inside, they saw Mentzer lying flat on his back, asleep on the floor. People were around, trying to wake him up and pick him up off the floor. When officers approached him, he finally sprang up but started yelling at everyone else around him. Officers escorted Mentzer outside as he needed assistance to walk. Officers and his family tried to get a safe ride home for Mentzer via taxi or ride share, but he refused. As he spoke with officers, he mumbled and swayed side to side. Officers advised Mentzer that he was in no condition to walk and had two options; either a ride share or jail, and he chose jail. He was arrested for public intoxication for his own safety. As they drove to booking, he challenged citizens to fight from the backseat of the cruiser.
