37-year-old Ethan Place was booked on January 4th after his girlfriend reported that he had been abusing her since she moved in with him. Iris Nevers told police that Ethan had been abusing her, but she never reported it because she didn’t think anyone would believe her. She stated that she quit her job and moved in with him back in May of 2023, and he had been controlling her whole life ever since. According to Iris, she couldn’t go anywhere without his permission. He even took away her cell phone, stating that she didn’t deserve it after making a call to his mother and sister, notifying them of his drinking problem and abuse toward her. Ethan told Iris that she betrayed him and needed to be punished. Iris told police she listened to him because she loved him. She attempted to leave several times, but Ethan convinced her to stay by threatening to kill himself. Iris showed the police a picture of her with a black eye dated August 9th. That specific incident started with an argument before Ethan pushed Iris, causing her to fall and hit her eye on a table. Nevers was arrested on August 27th, and when she returned home, he assaulted her again on August 29th, leaving bruises on her arm. Iris also showed the police a letter from Ethan that said, “I’m a miserable person. I’ve used you, abused you, lied to you, hurt you in many ways.” A warrant was issued for his arrest on December 29th.
Ethan W. Place was booked into the Metro Nashville Jail on January 4th, charged with domestic assault. A judicial commissioner set his bond at $1,500.
